Lee Arenberg
Born in Palo Alto, character actor Lee Arenberg is best known to adults for his guest appearances on Seinfeld and the short-lived cult favorite Action. To kids, Arenberg is better known as Black Pearl crewman Pintel in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Joan Baez
A folk music icon, Baez currently devotes her time to helping underprivileged East Palo Alto children when not performing in local events.
Lindsey Buckingham
Born in Palo Alto, Lindsey Buckingham was Fleetwood Mac's lead guitarist and songwriter from the mid-'70s to the late '80s. Buckingham reunited with the band for the 2003 album Say You Will.
James Franco
Born and raised in Palo Alto, James Franco first gained attention from critics for his performance as Daniel Desario--the underachieving bad boy who conceals a geeky side--on the cult favorite Freaks and Geeks. Franco's other credits include the 2001 biopic James Dean (his turn as the '50s icon won him a Golden Globe), the Spider-Man movies and the Robert Altman film The Company.
Amy Irving
Born and raised in Palo Alto, Amy Irving first gained attention as Sue Snell in the Brian De Palma classic Carrie. Irving's other credits include De Palma's Carrie follow-up The Fury, Yentl, Crossing Delancey and the TV series Alias. Once married to Steven Spielberg, Irving served as Jessica Rabbit's singing voice in Spielberg's Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Steve Young
Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Steve Young is a Palo Alto resident. Young's football career began at Brigham Young University. As a pro, Young served as the starting quarterback for the USFL's Los Angeles Express, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Niners (he succeeded Joe Montana as starting QB in 1991). Young led the NFL in passing for four straight seasons (1991-94) and spearheaded the Niners to victory at Super Bowl XXIX.
